The Formula One World Championship, commonly known as F1, is one of the top tiers of motorsport and the biggest sports event in the world. A total of 20 F1 racing vehicles from ten teams compete for the total Grand Prix around the world. Drivers have will be crowned world champions through the points system!
The Formula 1 attendance figures can reach 400,000 people, and it is estimated that the track laps will cover an area of around 5km on average. Since F1 is one of the most significant sporting events in the world, organizing such sporting events is never an easy task. That said, it requires a large amount of construction equipment to set up the entire circuit.
There are noticeable pieces of equipment present during the F1 race.
During an F1 race, the telehandler is without a doubt the most common equipment to be seen, especially when an accident or crash occurs. Telehandler is one of the most reliable pieces of equipment used to remove idling or crash F1 cars on the race track. With its versatility, it is able to lift and carry simultaneously, which allows the F1 race car to be removed from the race track as fast as possible without slowing down the entire racing process.
Aside, telehandlers are also used for preparing race barriers, pre-race construction and etc.
Aside from telehandlers, lorry cranes are also commonly used in some races to remove the idling or crashing race cars. Due to its road-use design, the lorry crane is not really useful on gravel areas, but only on race tracks. However, lorry cranes can remove the F1 cars much faster by traveling on the track compare to telehandlers.
Formula 1 races are filmed using more than 120 trackside cameras, onboard cameras, and helicopters to capture every race at the best angle. You may ask, why drone cameras are not used for F1 races. Drones have yet to be widely used in F1 race filming purely due to safety concerns. Any malfunction of drones that eventually falls on the race track can create a massive and serious accident. Therefore, aside from helicopter and fixed cameras, boom lifts are a great way to capture races from amazing vantage points.
The Singapore F1 Grand Prix is a street race and typically requires 5-months of pre-race construction and 2-month post-race dismantling work. It goes without saying that what we mentioned above is what you'll often see when racing. Massive construction work is needed during pre-F1 races such as setting up the paddock, pit lane, visitor stand, lighting, and more. Therefore, the preparation of an F1 race requires a variety of equipment, such as cranes, scissor lifts, boom lifts, telehandlers, forklifts, generators, trailers, scaffolds, etc.
